作者简介虽然出生和长大在苏格兰，Mennie花了他的大部分生活在中国。根据苏格兰1891年的人口普查，年轻的曼尼在萨瑟兰的戈尔斯皮接受化学家培训。到1914年，他在中国为制药公司AS工作。沃森公司在1934年被列为“经销商在所有类型的摄影化学品和仪器”，此举可能已影响了门尼的兴趣在摄影。Mennie的第一幅摄影作品可追溯到1914年，并于1920年出版了他最早的摄影书。他对旅行的热情激发了他的摄影，1926年，他创作了他的代表作《三峡的壮丽》，记录了他沿长江而上的旅程。Mennie的风格关注于捕捉场景的大气质量，而不仅仅是记录它。
